DRAIN CLEANING FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

That’s a common sign of a clogged main sewer line. Water will escape at the lowest point it can find—often a basement floor drain, cleanout, laundry sink, washing machine standpipe, or a lower-level toilet.

Those fixtures typically share a drain line. If there’s a blockage downstream of where the lower sink connects, water can’t pass and will rise in the lower fixture.

This can happen with a partial blockage between floors. The line struggles to vent, so it burps air and water into the lower fixture before slowly draining. Snaking from the correct access point (often upstairs) may be needed.

Often this points to clogged or failing footing drains and/or drainage outlets. If you know where your gutter/footing drain outlets discharge, confirm they’re clear. If water continues, the drains may need professional cleaning.

A camera inspection uses a small, waterproof video camera to look inside your drain or sewer line. It’s one of the best ways to confirm what’s causing a problem (roots, breaks, heavy buildup, bellies) and to verify the line is properly cleaned.

Some modern low-flow toilets have smaller trapways and can clog more easily. If you’re plunging constantly, you may have a toilet with a smaller discharge opening. A plumber can evaluate whether a toilet change-out or drain service is the best fix.

Kitchen drains aren’t designed for heavy solids. Limit what goes into the disposal, and always run plenty of water before, during, and after use. If backups continue, the drain line may need cleaning.

This may indicate a full tank, a clogged filter (if present), or a problem with the leach field. Start with pumping and filter service, then have a licensed professional assess the system if symptoms persist.

A main sewer line backup can push wastewater into the lowest connected fixtures, including laundry drains. The main line typically needs to be cleared.

First, check the trap under the sink (or use a wet/dry vac carefully). If it’s not there, we can perform a camera inspection to locate the item and recommend the safest retrieval method.
